Paronella Park is one of Cairns, Australia’s most exciting attractions, not to mention an award winning one. People have to see Paronella to believe this awe-inspiring Spanish Castle built years ago by Jose Paronella himself. Consisting of an entire castle, cinema, and hydroelectric plant that are still in operation despite its initial erection back in the 1930s, this stone-carved mortar build monument was constructed in the midst of a dense and raging rainforest. Paronella was built on a dream, and now tourists and locals alike can witness that dream as they meander through the main castle’s wondrous beauty and ingenuity. More on-site attractions include the outstanding Mena Creek falls, which is the source of early electricity that was produced by Jose’s own hydro-electric plant; this same hydroelectric facility almost entirely destroyed the Spanish Castles at Paronella Park when the Creek flooded, but just like the famous Pioneer Jose himself, nature’s obstacles could not tear down this amazing and historical structure.
